They say the gift of giving is the greatest gift of all. Whoever "they" are must not have a very long shopping list. We stress and fret and worry from Thanksgiving until Christmas morning about what to get for our loved ones, but not this year. We got smart and made a plan. Here, then, is our cheat sheet of what to get that someone special, or that someone whom we felt obligated to buy something for but had no idea what.

D Magazine suggests giving Bratt Decor's Zanzibar Rocking Cradle as the best gift for baby or expecting parents.

Finishing our Christmas List early that's the greatest gift of all.

Two of Bratt Decor's adorably feminine pieces are used to detail this baby space feature- the Jane Crib in white and the Jane Dresser/Changer in white with pink stripped accent drawer fronts.

With feminine accents in pink and green to compliment the clean black and white of the gorgeously detailed bedding, P&N's editor whisks your little doll away to the exotic orient without ever having to leave the comfort of her own crib.

In 1995, Mary and Stephen Bauer were expecting their first child. Stephen had his own business as a commercial illustrator and was enjoying great success. Mary was a marketing director for a local architectural firm. They both were excited about their new addition. Stephen showed his excitement by designing a gorgeous wrought iron crib for their new baby.

With that crib, Bratt Decor was born. Since then, the Bauer family has grown, as has the business. Bratt Decor designs include baby cribs, dressers, changing tables, childrens furniture and coordinating accessories. Stephen works full-time designing, creating and manufacturing products while Mary manages sales and marketing. Sebastian and Raiff, their sons, do product testing and design input.

M&T Bank won this banking relationship in January of 2006. Bratt Decor has seen significant expansion since then. Michael Pietropaoli, assistant vice president and relationship manager, and Carl Hairston, vice president and team leader, both of

CBB choose Bratt Decor's Venetian 3-in-1 crib as "The Best Iron Crib on the Market"

-------

During pregnancy, one of first things new parents think about buying is the crib. It's also the purchase that requires the most lead time, so it's wise to start weighing your options around your second trimester. Like most purchases, there are so many variables to consider. Well, we've been there, done that, and want to help guide you through this important decision.

Best Iron Crib

Name: Bratt Decor Venetian 3-in-1

Price: $966

Why It's Great: Iron cribs evoke such vintage glamour and elegance, it's no wonder they're popular for girls' rooms (but they can work for boys', too). Available in four finishes, Bratt Decor's Venetian crib gives you multiple looks for one price. Add the four posters for a poster bed, or add the cross bars and fabric for a canopy-style bed. No over-the-top nursery for Jeri Ryan and husband Christophe Emé, a chef in L.A. "We wanted a room that could grow with our daughter and was a little more sophisticated," the actress says. But when it came time to choose a crib, Christophe couldnt resist indulging Gisele, now 6 months, with furniture fit for royalty: "the most ornate iron canopy princess bed!" describes Ryan. The couple designed the room around the Bratt Decor crib, adding a custom changing table and dresser, wood floors and green walls for a "soothing, relaxing" ambiance. The one must-have item for every nursery? "Comfort," Ryan says. Thats the most important thing.

Q&A

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE NURSERY?

I wanted something very soothing and [my husband] Christophe and I both were pretty adamant about not wanting over the top baby, baby, baby, you know, with murals. We wanted a room that could grow with her and was

She's due any day now with twin girls, but Numb3rs actress Diane Farr has it all under control. "When I found out it was twins, I said a lot of expletives," the actress told Life & Style during a July 3 visit to the girls' new nursery in Diane's West Hollywood home. The nursery features a Bratt Decor Venetian Crib in gold (the same one she has for son Beckett) and a Chelsea Double Dresser in Espresso.

Farr loved the crib so much that she "couldn't imagine getting anything different" she says.

The twins' ballerina themed nursery follows Diane's decorating rule of thumb: "You should splurge on a really high-end piece," she says "then one medium piece and a bunch of things to fill it in."

Joking that pregnancy is "the one time in your life when you can gain 50 pounds and people congratulate you," actress Diane Farr admits that when an ultrasound revealed twins, "I said a lot of expletives."

Then I realized it was all about organization. Now Im pretty much prepared. If you open up any drawer in the room, theyre filled for until the girls are 2!

Describing how she chose to decorate the girls' nursery, Diane, 38, explains her rules: "You should splurge on a really high-end piece, then one medium piece, and a bunch of things to fill in. For her more expensive items, Diane picked out Posh Tots chandelier and lamps; for her mid-range items, Serena and Lily sheet sets. For furniture, she turned to Bratt Decor for their Venetian Crib in gold (Diane already had one she used with Beckett, so she added another to her nursery) and the

We all dont have the budget of Jennifer Lopez to keep up with the furnishing needs of a growing child so its nice to know that one of the smartest trends emerging for parents is the lifetime crib. This versatile furniture converts from an infant's crib to a bed and can follow your offspring from the nursery into young adult years, making it the only bed you may ever have to buy for your child.

When the bed makes the transition You wouldnt be able to tell it was a crib, says Lindsay Clark, e-commerce manager for Bratt Decor in Belvedere Square.

Crib beds typically are stylish, elegant and practical and manufacturers say designed to transition seamlessly to a full-sized bed. Their price range is from $850 to more than $1,500 for an its our first child extravagance. With some styles, a crib can convert to a designer daybed just by removing

Pacticality, simplicity and eco-friendly furniture and accessories are todays watchwords when talking about parents furnishing their childrens nurseries, bedrooms and play-rooms. When it comes to play areas, organization iskey, says Angel Fischer, an interior designer with Kirk Designs. Things have to be functional as wellas fun. Its not just about looking cute.

Most of our clients are concerned with how to manage the chaos, and they are looking for things that are durable, can be cleaned easily and are not tremendously expensive. And no one is doing themed rooms.

While most adults groan at the thought of shag carpeting anywhere, Fischer points out that it can be very forgiving when it comes to spills and can hide alot of flaws. She also recommends Pottery Barn as a great place to shop: The furniture can take a decent beating from children and not be utterly destroyed.

Consumers are also looking for eco-friendly products. This
